The refurbishment project aimed to create a modern, open-plan living space with more natural light and clear outdoor views. Key goals were a column-free rear extension for maximum floor area and flexible layouts, using innovative structural solutions that balance aesthetics and engineering. The building’s load-bearing capabilities were assessed, leading to the use of 3-meter pre-cambered cantilever beams made of high-strength steel, allowing for overhangs without vertical supports. Pre-cambering ensures the beams maintain their shape under load, and reinforced concrete was used for durability. The project successfully combined ambitious architectural goals with advanced structural engineering, resulting in a striking, functional, and aesthetically pleasing column-free extension.
