In this basement construction project, we employed a comprehensive underpinning approach to enhance the stability of the existing structure during excavation. This method ensures that the integrity of the building remains intact while allowing for essential renovations. Given the challenges posed by the site’s high water table, a robust waterproofing strategy was paramount. We designed the basement slab as an inverted raft foundation to effectively counteract substantial upward hydraulic pressures. This raft system works in tandem with a high-performance waterproof membrane to prevent water ingress, ensuring a dry and usable space. Through these engineered solutions, we successfully created a structurally sound and watertight basement that meets the environmental challenges of the site and supports the loads imposed by the building above.
